Residency Information

Where do you see yourself? Let the sights and sounds of Paris, streets of New York and sandy beaches on the Island of Sylt immerse you.

Paris

Cité Internationale des Arts

The Cité Internationale des Arts is intended for professional artists who want to develop artistic works in France. It is related to a vast network of partners and associates. Three of its historic founders and key partners are the City of Paris, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The facilities of the Cité are divided between two locations in Paris:

The site located at 18 rue de l’Hôtel de Ville includes 270 individual workshops in the heart of the Marais district, a dynamic quarter swarming with art galleries and a favourite destination for Parisians.

The site located at 24 rue Norvins is composed of several buildings in a large garden in Montmartre and has 30 individual workshops. Montmartre was a focal point for artists all over the world for many years.

Residents may practice their artistic discipline and develop their creative techniques for the duration of their stay at the Cité Internationale des Arts. The residence also houses an exhibition area where artists can display their works and an auditorium where they can perform concerts.

Island of Sylt

The Sylt Foundation

The Foundation is located on the site of a natural water reservoir and bottling plant called the Sylt-Quelle. The German word Quelle means source; an appropriate word, as the Sylt Quelle Foundation is intended as a place of beginnings: of ideas, of creative projects.

The Foundation consists of a gallery, a large production hall, and five apartments for artists. The buildings are set in a wide, open space used for installations and open-air events and unifies the modern architectural complex into an exciting meeting place. The gallery is located in the Quelle building: a light, uncluttered exhibition space in which temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art take place.

The five fully equipped apartments are for artists staying on the island on Sylt Quelle work/residence grants, but they may also be used for guests of the foundation. Throughout the year, artists, actors musicians and writers come the kunstraum to work on projects, to participate in events, and to exchange ideas.

New york

The Ampersand Foundation

The Ampersand Foundation is an equal-opportunity, non-profit trust organisation that awards excellence in the arts by enabling invited awardees to spend time in New York, in an apartment set up as part of the grant. The Foundation, which has a reputation of being somewhat secretive in its selection processes (if you apply, you are immediately disqualified), expects the experience to benefit the community at large. They recognise and reward excellence and encourage potential in the arts by granting fellowships.
